COUNSELLING

KATIE WARD PGDip

Available Fridays 3.30-6.30pm

50 minute counselling session: £65

Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I draw on a range of experience from psychotherapy, spirituality, and Gestalt training. I am formally trained in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy which is a school of counselling with ground breaking concepts and experiential techniques for people interested in personal and psycho-spiritual transformation. It attempts to bridge Western Psychotherapy with Eastern techniques. As a relational therapist I pay attention to the relationship between us, encouraging open and honest communication about it as it develops, always with your best interests in mind.

Before training formally I was very interested in relationships and emotional intelligence and have trained with Byron Katie, Sadhguru and A Course in Miracles specialists. I have a daily kriya yoga practice which really supports my personal wellbeing and makes it easier to be available to support other people. I also run a small family business that makes gut health probiotics.

Change can be difficult on your own, but through in-depth conversation and with the choice to use our time together for understanding and healing, I believe that therapy can be a process of self-discovery and empowerment.

What would it be like to meet you?
Before we meet we would have a 15 min free phone conversation. Counselling is more successful when you find a practitioner that you feel safe enough with and so the chemistry between counsellor and client is important.

During our first meeting we would spend time discussing your goals for counselling and talking about your history. This gives us a map as to where you are and where you want to be as well as what has come before. From here, if you wanted to continue to work together we would decide on a number of sessions - say 5 or 8 sessions - to start working together. After that time we would reflect on any changes and decide together how to move forward.

I aim to create a safe, comfortable, and confidential space where you can come and talk about your experiences and begin to explore what they mean for you.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I use talking therapy so we would spend the majority of the 50 minutes talking.

I do also use visualisations and some simple body exercises if I think that will be beneficial with the psychological material we are working with. Any exercises are always done with your willingness. You will never be asked to do anything you do not feel comfortable with.

In terms of difficulties I have worked with a number of different areas including low self esteem, depression, anxiety, illness, adultery and family break ups.
