Can you tell us a bit about your background?
Hi, I’m Kylie. My journey began with a love for sports, where I thrived on the challenge of competition. However, I knew my career as an athlete wouldn’t last forever. This led me to explore recovery and treatment, starting with a BTEC Level 3 in Sport & Exercise Science. Initially, I considered pursuing Sports Therapy at university, but I soon realised a different path suited me better. Instead, I discovered a passion for massage and qualified in Holistic Massage in 2007. This marked a turning point, shifting my focus from competition to helping others.
Over the years, I’ve enhanced my skills through various qualifications, including diplomas in pregnancy and labour massage, oncology massage, cupping, and baby massage instruction. I also completed a BTEC Level 5 in Soft Tissue & Remedial Massage, blending my sports background with advanced therapeutic techniques.
My interest in osteopathy began when I sought treatment for chronic injuries that other approaches hadn’t resolved. I was amazed by its effectiveness and wanted to understand the “magic” behind it. This led me to complete a Master’s in Osteopathy in June 2024 at the University College of Osteopathy (formerly the British School of Osteopathy), where I gained five years of education and two years of clinical practice. Currently, I’m furthering my expertise with a postgraduate certificate in specialist paediatric osteopathy, which I’ll complete in January 2025.
What would it be like to meet you?
As an osteopath, it’s important to look at the body as a whole. For example, You might have shoulder pain but it might be coming from elsewhere. At your initial appointment, we will spend some time talking about your medical history, which will include questions about your general health and lifestyle, as well as asking you about the symptoms or injuries that you are seeking help with. This is to gather as much information as possible which might help with diagnosis. It will be followed by an examination which, depending on the concerns you present with, will consist of a physical examination and possibly a clinical examination such as checking your reflexes, nerves, or using a stethoscope. If it’s your baby who is the patient, they’ll receive a full body examination, including reflexes and their latch. I will then discuss with you my findings and the course of treatment I feel would be suitable, including exercises and possible lifestyle changes.
I can also provide massages as a massage therapist where the consultation will be a lot shorter and will focus on the relaxation of muscles without prior examination. My treatment is dependent on the type of treatment booked but also on what I can feel once I am treating you as the body can sometimes tell you more than what the person feels.
What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I use osteopathy and massage, both of which are hands-on therapies tailored to the needs of each individual. Osteopathy focuses on addressing the root causes of pain or dysfunction by considering how different parts of the body interact. It’s effective for a range of conditions, including back and neck pain, joint issues, sports injuries, postural problems, and even pregnancy-related discomfort. I also work with babies and children, using gentle techniques to support issues such as colic, feeding difficulties, and developmental concerns.
Massage therapy is another aspect of my practice. This can be for relaxation, stress relief, or easing muscle tension, and it is also beneficial for recovery and injury prevention. Over the years, I’ve developed specialised skills in pregnancy massage, oncology massage, and soft tissue therapy, which allows me to adapt treatments for clients at all stages of life.
Whether you’re seeking relief from a chronic condition, recovering from an injury, or simply looking to unwind, my goal is to help you feel more balanced, comfortable, and empowered in your body.
